Application and dosage

All modern protein mixtures are so-called whey proteins (whey means whey). Although whey already contains all the proteins and amino acids, good protein mixtures ultimately differ in terms of their processing and performance. In high-quality protein mixtures, the proteins and amino acids are present as isolates and hydrolysates. The treatment of proteins and amino acids to produce these changes is quite difficult and requires a great deal of experience in order not to alter their biological effectiveness.

We also differentiate between “fast” proteins and “slow” proteins. Fast proteins are, as the name suggests, absorbed quickly and act immediately on site in the organism.

In order to produce a high-quality protein powder, a balanced ratio between isolates, hydrolysates and fast and slow proteins is required. We have tested and measured this in more than 2000 intensive care patients during the development of our protein powder. The correct mixture was determined using step-by-step multiple discriminant analysis. We measured the effect by measuring the increase in muscle mass using a bio-impedance method that we refined ourselves. After just three to four days, this sensitive measurement showed that the proteins had been incorporated into the muscles.

The aim was to achieve an amino acid level in the blood of the patients that corresponds to that of a healthy person, even under the extreme stress conditions of intensive care. We also measured the amino acid levels in each of these patients. We are not aware of such intensive, scientifically substantiated development of an amino acid mixture in other products.

Why do we aim for an amino acid level that is similar to that of healthy people?

Every stress changes the pattern of amino acids in a characteristic way, minor stress, minor changes, major stress, major changes (during stress the branched-chain amino acids go down, the aromatic amino acids go up).

But a normal amino acid level is an indispensable prerequisite for optimal protein synthesis.

There are different types of stress: illness, surgery, hunger, sport, but also, to a limited extent, ageing itself.

According to modern nutritional science, sport is also stress.

Our protein product smoothes out these changes, so to speak, restoring normal amino acid levels. It thus creates the optimum conditions for protein synthesis.

This is the “secret” of our protein powder.

Dosage

We should discuss the dosage separately. Just this much: For elderly people, we recommend a basic dose of 25 g, or two scoops, of the powder to prevent or treat sarcopenia. In the case of sport in older people, the ideal window for therapy is one hour before or one hour after sport. We therefore recommend taking 25 g of our protein powder either before or after exercise (see our study).

For athletes, especially top athletes, we recommend customisation using the bio-impedance method, which allows you to measure the proportion of muscle in the body very precisely. The bio-impedance method is a simple and elegant way of individually measuring the amount of muscle in the body.
